Isle of Wight Liberal Democrats

No Fracking on the Island!

Green Lib DemsWe the undersigned call upon the Isle of Wight's elected representatives to oppose fracking on the Isle of Wight.

In March 2016, the Liberal Democrats voted to ban fracking in England and Wales. The party called for further investment in renewable energy production and action to meet climate change targets.

Liberal Democrat Energy and Climate Change spokesperson Lynne Featherstone said:

"Fracking is not the solution to the country's energy problems. The Tories are rolling back the green agenda which Liberal Democrats fought hard for in government. We need to focus on long term sustainable goals like achieving a zero carbon Britain by 2050, not carving up the countryside for short term gains."

The Isle of Wight Liberal Democrats support this motion, and we believe that fracking would be the wrong path for the Island to take. We reject the idea that fracking should take place in areas like Arreton, Totland and the West Wight coast. We want to work with everyone we can to stop fracking on the island.
