Conservatives to consider closing the Military Road

27 Mar 2010

Ruling Conservative councillors will consider a recommendation to close the Military Road at their Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, 30 March 2010.

The recommendation is that:: "That when the road becomes unsafe, the council truncates the road both side of the breach ... and install turning heads and improve car parking as necessary." Effectively the Military Road will become two giant cul-de-sacs with traffic being diverted inland through Brook.

Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Jill Wareham said that the Conservatives were taking the soft option. "It's easier for them just to let the road go, despite its importance to tourism and the inland villages," she said.

The Cabinet meeting is open to the public and is being held from 6pm at County Hall. The report can be downloaded from the Council web site (link under "Related link" below).
