Jill Wareham welcomes young people's views

27 Mar 2010

Jill Wareham, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the Isle of Wight, was delighted to have been invited to speak to students at Ryde High School on Friday, 19 March 2010.

A number of parliamentary candidates were invited to speak to students to give their views on a variety of issues. Commenting on the visit Jill said "The questions the students asked were wide ranging and sometimes challenging, varying from what I thought about wind turbines, the economy, tuition fees, school Academies to repealing the Hunting Act.

"I also had the opportunity to ask the students their views and discover what their issues were. Transport was the biggest issue they raised, such as the cost of ferry fares and bus services.

"I undertook to arrange a meeting with Southern Vectis and have set this in motion and hope that a small number of students and me will meet Marc Morgan-Huws shortly.

"It is so important for candidates to listen to their constituents. Young people are the future and I welcome opportunities to discuss their issues with them. Democracy is something we should value - the way you vote does make a difference to people's lives."
