Lib Dem gain from Conservative in Island by-election

Nick Stuart has gained the Brighstone, Calbourne and Shalfleet ward for the Liberal Democrats from the Conservatives in a by-election yesterday (24 November 2022).
The result is:

| Labour | 31 | 3.1% |
Nick thanked the staff who ran the count, the other candidates and, above all, the residents of the ward that has now elected him.
Speaking at the count he committed himself to work on on behalf of all the people in the ward. "The critical thing is to listen to voters, undestand what the issues are and put that forward, with the values we hold," said Nick.
Local media called the result a "landslide", noting that Nick had got more than half the votes cast and more than twice the number of the second-placed Conservative candidate.
