Vestas - Lib Dems launch petition for Council action on green jobs and manufacturing

14 Aug 2009

Following the closure of Vestas and the loss of 600 jobs to the Island, local Liberal Democrats are calling on the Council to take urgent action. A petition, originally started by Vestas workers, is now available on this site to help residents show their support.

The text of the petition is:

"We, the undersigned, express massive concern about the devastating effect on the Island's economy which will result from the loss of 600 jobs at Vestas. We also deplore the lack of adequate action on the part of the Isle of Wight Council so far in terms of addressing this issue. We call on the council to take urgent steps to take up this matter more actively with the government & Vestas to ensure the maintenance of an ongoing manufacturing base and green jobs on the Isle of Wight."
